Mumbai, Jan 14: American guitarist and singer-songwriter John Mayer’s much-anticipated India debut has hit a sour note ahead of its opening act, with his Mumbai concert postponed just weeks before the scheduled date.
The Grammy-winning musician was originally set to perform on January 22, 2026, at the Mahalaxmi Race Course. However, BookMyShow Live, the organisers of the event, announced on Wednesday that the concert has now been rescheduled to February 11, 2026, citing “unforeseen circumstances”.

While organisers clarified that all existing tickets will remain valid for the new date, the sudden postponement triggered a wave of disappointment among fans. Social media platforms were flooded with comments questioning the timing of the announcement, seeking clarity on refunds and expressing frustration over disrupted travel and accommodation plans.
Despite the delay, Mayer’s maiden performance in India continues to be viewed as a landmark moment for live music enthusiasts. The one-night-only solo concert is expected to feature some of his most popular tracks, including Gravity, Slow Dancing in a Burning Room and Waiting on the World to Change.
Earlier, speaking to Rolling Stone India, Mayer had expressed excitement about performing in the country. “India has long been on my list of places to play, not just for the vibrancy of its culture but for the way music lives in the everyday lives of people here. To finally perform in Mumbai feels both humbling and exhilarating,” he had said.
John Mayer rose to prominence in the early 2000s with albums such as Room for Squares and Heavier Things, quickly gaining recognition for his distinctive voice and blues-influenced guitar work. His later albums, including Continuum and Battle Studies, marked a creative high point, delivering chart-topping hits and cementing his reputation as a technically accomplished yet mainstream artist.
Over the years, Mayer has expanded his musical palette, exploring blues, country, Americana and soft rock. His association with Dead & Company introduced him to a new generation of listeners and highlighted his strength as a live performer known for extended improvisations and fresh reinterpretations of his songs.
He has collaborated with a wide range of artists, from legends like B.B. King and Eric Clapton to contemporary stars such as Alicia Keys and Ed Sheeran. With his India debut still on track despite the postponement, fans are hopeful that the rescheduled concert will be worth the wait.
