Udupi, Jan 13: Udupi city police arrested two inter-state motorcycle theft accused and recovered a stolen two-wheeler in connection with a theft case reported from Moodanidambur village in Udupi district.
The arrested accused have been identified as Ashik Ansar and Mohammed Altaf, both residents of Ernakulam district, Kerala.

The case pertains to a complaint lodged by Nagachandra (32), son of Balakrishna S Bunt, a resident of Moodanidambur village. According to the complaint, on December 28 at around 9 pm, Nagachandra had parked his motorcycle near the Landmark Building on the coastal bypass road at Moodanidambur and returned home. When he came back to the spot the next morning around 7 am, he found that the motorcycle had been stolen. The value of the stolen vehicle was estimated at around Rs 70,000.
Based on the complaint, a case was registered at Udupi city police station.
Under the guidance of D T Prabhu, deputy superintendent of police, Udupi sub-division, and the supervision of Mahesh Prasad P, in-charge police inspector of Udupi city police station, a special team was formed to detect the crime. The team was led by police sub-inspectors Bharatesh Kankanawadi and Gopalakrishna Jogi, along with staff members Prasanna C, Santosh Rathod, Mallayya Hiremath and Shivakumar.
On January 4, the police team traced and arrested the accused at Mukkam in Kozhikode district, Kerala. The accused are Ashik Ansar (19), son of Ansar, and Mohammed Altaf (23), son of Mohammed Shakeela, both residents of Ernakulam district.
Police recovered the stolen black Yamaha R15 motorcycle from the possession of the accused.
Further investigation revealed that Ashik Ansar has two criminal cases registered against him in Kerala, including a house burglary case and a ganja consumption case. Mohammed Altaf has five cases registered against him in Kerala, including three theft cases and two ganja consumption cases.
