Udupi: Koraga Federation suspends 25-day protest after CM’s assurance on jobs

Udupi, Jan 10: The Koraga Development Associations Federation of Karnataka–Kerala has temporarily suspended its day-and-night protest demanding direct recruitment of Koraga community youth into government jobs, following assurances given by chief minister (CM) Siddaramaiah.

The indefinite dharna satyagraha, which had been underway for the past 25 days in front of the deputy commissioner’s office, was launched on December 15 and continued until January 9.

Addressing a press conference held at the protest site on January 9, federation president Sushila Nada warned that if the government fails to consider and implement the demand within the next three months, the federation will be forced to launch an intensified agitation.

Sushila Nada stated that the protest was a lawful and democratic struggle aimed at securing direct government employment for Koraga youth. “In view of the positive response and assurances from CM Siddaramaiah, the chief secretary of the government, and senior departmental officials, we have decided to temporarily defer the protest,” she said.

During the protest, Udupi district JD(S) president Yogesh V Shetty visited the site. Party secretary Kapu Jayaram Acharya was also present. District Minority Forum president Charles Ambler, secretary T M Jappulla Hooda, and several other leaders expressed their solidarity by visiting the agitation site.

Federation coordinator K Putra, general secretary Naveen Bantwal, leaders Bharathi Kapu, Seena Bellan, Shekhar Kenjuru, Dinakar Kalluru, federation secretary Preethi Hebri, Kumar Das Haladi, Sanjeeva Barkur, and many others were present during the meeting.
