Belthangady, Jan 1: A scooter rider who had sustained critical injuries in a road accident at Neriya on December 25 has succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Mangaluru.

The deceased has been identified as John P J (52), a resident of Gandibagilu in Neriya village.

According to sources, the accident occurred at around 4.20 pm when John was riding from the Ambattamale area towards Aniyuru. While negotiating a downhill stretch of the road, the scooter reportedly skidded, throwing him off balance and causing him to fall.

He suffered serious injuries to the head and ear in the mishap. Passers-by immediately rushed him to the Kakkhinje hospital, from where he was shifted to a hospital in Mangaluru for advanced medical care. Despite continuous treatment, he breathed his last on Wednesday.

The Belthangady traffic police station has registered a case in connection with the incident and is investigating the circumstances leading to the accident.
