Kundapur: Fake gold scam - Accused arrested

Kundapur, Dec 26: Shankaranarayana police have arrested an accused who allegedly cheated Gopal, a resident of Chandrabanda village in Raichur district, of several lakhs of rupees by promising gold at a cheaper price.

The arrested accused has been identified as Jayaprakash D of Gandhinagar, Challakere in Chitradurga district.

 

The accused had allegedly taken Rs 5 lac from Gopal on Kamalashile Road in Siddapur, claiming it to be payment for 150 grams of gold, but handed over fake gold and fled. A case in this regard was registered at the Shankaranarayana police station.

Under the guidance of Kundapur subdivision DYSP H D Kulkarni, Shankaranarayana police traced and arrested the accused from the Kote area of Chitradurga. Police have seized Rs 4,50,000 in cash from him and a car worth about Rs 10 lac that was allegedly used to commit the crime. The accused has been produced before the court.
