Mangaluru, Dec 23: The Academic Council of Mangalore University on Monday approved the self-closure proposals submitted by 22 private degree colleges that were affiliated to the university.
Presiding over the meeting, vice-chancellor Prof P L Dharma said that the managements of the colleges had decided to shut down their institutions. However, academic activities will continue for students who have already taken admission and are currently studying in different classes. He added that the concerned colleges have been instructed to provide all necessary services to students, including the verification of marks cards and other academic requirements.

Due to reasons such as a halt in student admissions and other factors, these colleges had not applied for renewal of affiliation. With the closure of these 22 colleges, the total number of colleges affiliated to Mangalore University will come down to 167.
Of these, 109 are private colleges, 32 are government first-grade colleges, nine are autonomous colleges, 13 are BEd colleges, and four are constituent colleges of the university.
