Beltangady, Dec 18: An externment order has been issued for the second time against Mahesh Shetty Thimarodi of Ujire, a key activist leading the agitation seeking justice in the Soujanya case. The fresh order was passed by the Puttur assistant commissioner following a review directed by the High Court.

Puttur assistant commissioner Stella Varghese issued the order on December 17.

Mahesh Shetty had earlier been externed under an order passed by the Puttur assistant commissioner, which was subsequently challenged in the High Court.

Acting on the High Court’s directions, the authorities re-examined the matter and have now issued a revised externment order, directing Mahesh Shetty to remain outside the district for a period of one year by relocating to Maanvi taluk in Raichur district.

After a copy of the externment order reached the Belthangady police station, police personnel visited the residence of Mahesh Shetty Thimmarodi in Ujire on December 18 to serve the notice. However, he was reportedly not present at his house at the time.
