Mangaluru, Dec 18: The Indian Institute of Skill Development and Research (IISDR), under the aegis of Utkarsh Charitable and Welfare Trust (R), is organising a one-day workshop titled “Decoding labour codes – Understanding the new era of labour reforms in India” on Saturday, December 20, from 8.30 am to 6.00 pm at the Dr TMA Pai International Convention Centre, Mangaluru. The workshop is being organised partnering with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Mangaluru, Mangalore Management Association (MMA), and Kanara Industries Association (KIA).
India is witnessing a landmark transformation in its labour regulatory framework with the consolidation of 29 existing labour laws into four labour codes covering wages, industrial relations, social security, and occupational safety, health and working conditions. While these reforms aim to simplify compliance and make labour laws more transparent and business-friendly, they also pose significant challenges in interpretation and implementation. The workshop is designed to bridge this gap by decoding complex legal provisions and translating them into practical, actionable insights for organisations and professionals.

The workshop gains special importance in the present context as organisations across sectors prepare to realign their HR policies, wage structures, industrial relations strategies, and compliance systems with the new Labour Codes. A clear understanding of these reforms is crucial to ensure statutory compliance, reduce legal risks, and promote harmonious employer–employee relations. By addressing both legal and operational aspects, the programme aims to help participants move effectively from policy notification to ground-level implementation.
Krishna Hegde M, group general manager at MRPL, will inaugurate the workshop. Sub Lieutenant Abhay Udupa, will be the guest of honour during the inaugural programme and will be felicitated in recognition of his appointment as Sub Lieutenant at Indian Navy. The programme features an eminent panel of speakers including Dr Onkar Sharma, chief labour commissioner (Retd), Government of India, Dr Alka Mittal, former CMD and director (HR), ONGC, New Delhi, Dr Israel Inbaraj F, guest faculty, IIM, Prashanth B K, advocate and consultant, CCI Legal, Bengaluru, Rajesh Mishrikoti, deputy director of factories, Mangaluru, and other local statutory authorities. Industry perspectives will be shared by Sandeep S P, head – HR, Pratt & Whitney India Business, Bengaluru during the panel discussion.
The workshop is open to HR and IR professionals, compliance officers, legal teams, factory managers, welfare officers, industry leaders, academicians, research scholars, and students of HR, law, and management. Registration details are available through IISDR.
