Brahmavar, Dec 8: Harish Shetty Bandsale, born and raised in the coastal village of Haradi–Honnala, in Brahmavar taluk, Udupi district, has been awarded a PhD degree from the prestigious University of Bath, England.
Harish Shetty completed an in-depth study of working and living conditions of migrant workers living on construction sites of Bengaluru, India, titled 'Home–Work Dynamics in the Margins of the Global South' and successfully defended his thesis, earning his doctorate. His PhD was conducted under guidance of distinguished scholars Professor Vivek Soundararajan, Professor Andrew Crane and Dr Pankhuri Agarwal of University of Bath, UK.

Dr Harish Shetty Bandsale hails from Kelabandasale House in Haradi village, Brahmavar taluk. He is the son of Ratnavati Shetty and Haluvalli Kontibailu Lakshmana Shetty. He completed his primary education at Honnala Government Urdu Higher Primary School and Vidyamandira Higher Primary School, Haradi, followed by his high school and pre-university education at SMS PU College, Brahmavar. He obtained his BSW degree from Dr A V Baliga group of institutes, Haradi, and later completed his MSW at Dr M V Shetty College of Social Work, Mangaluru. Before joining PhD he worked with the Azim Premji foundation and Ministry of Labour and Employment, Govt of India.
Dr Harish Shetty began his doctoral studies at IIM Ahmedabad, India’s top-ranked management institution, before receiving an international scholarship to continue his PhD at the University of Bath, UK. He was also awarded the prestigious 'Postgraduate Research Funding Award' by the 'Royal Geographical Society, UK, ' to support his study on the working and living conditions of migrant construction workers residing on worksites and labour sheds in Bengaluru, India.
Dr Harish Shetty successfully defended his thesis in the very first attempt, without requiring any corrections, and has brought pride to his hometown with this accomplishment.
