Pune, Dec 7: A 19-year-old youth was brutally murdered after being called to resolve an old dispute, sending shockwaves across Pune’s Yerawada–Chandannagar area on Saturday night.

The victim, Lakhan alias Sonya Sakat (19), a resident of Ambedkar Vasti, Chandannagar, was killed in a savage knife assault around 8 pm at Oxygen Park along the old Mundhwa Road.

According to police, Sakat had gone to the park with a minor friend after being asked to settle previous arguments with two youths. However, the accused — Prathamesh Dardu and Yash Gaikwad, both from Chandannagar — had allegedly arrived earlier, armed with sharp weapons and waiting for him.

As soon as Sakat reached the spot, the duo launched a frenzied attack, stabbing him 20–25 times on his hands, legs, stomach, face and head. He died on the spot due to the severe injuries. The attackers fled immediately after the assault.

The gruesome killing created panic in the locality. Senior officials including DCP Somya Munde, ACP Pranjali Sonawane and Senior Police Inspector Seema Dhakne rushed to the site and initiated an intensive probe. A murder case was being registered late into the night.

Police said investigations are underway to trace the absconding accused and determine the exact motive behind the attack.
