Margao, Dec 6: Even as the Congress continues its search for a suitable nominee for the Davorlim Zilla Panchayat seat, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took an early lead on Friday by officially launching its campaign in the constituency. Party State President Damu Naik, accompanied by Navelim MLA Ulhas Tuenkar and the BJP candidate Satyavijay Naik, called upon party workers to leave no stone unturned in retaining the seat.

The leaders, along with ZP member Paresh Naik and several party workers, visited Shantinagar temple to seek blessings of Goddess Shantadurga before beginning the election campaign.

Addressing the gathering, State BJP chief Damu Naik reminded the cadre of the party’s past victories in Davorlim. “The BJP won the seat in 2020 and again successfully retained it in the by-poll. Now, every worker must reach out to voters and garner support for our candidate Satyavijay Naik,” he asserted.

Navelim MLA Ulhas Tuenkar urged workers to highlight the various development initiatives undertaken by both the Central and State governments. He said the BJP government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has delivered numerous welfare schemes and brought remarkable progress to Navelim over the last three years. Stressing the need for continued public faith, he added, “We have won Davorlim before, and with dedicated effort, we will retain it again.”

Meanwhile, the Congress is yet to announce its candidate for the seat, causing uncertainty within the party ranks. Though Navelim leader Cipru Cardozo has proposed the name of Aquem-Baixo Sarpanch Danny Fernandes, the party leadership has not taken a final decision so far.

With the BJP already hitting the ground running, all eyes are now on Congress as the political momentum builds ahead of the polls.
