Istanbul, Dec 2: Turkey reported on Tuesday that another tanker came under attack in the Black Sea while en route to Georgia, though no crew members were injured.
The latest incident involved the Midvolga 2, which reported being attacked 80 nautical miles off the Turkish coast. The vessel, carrying sunflower oil from Russia to Georgia, had 13 crew members on board, all safe, according to Turkey’s maritime affairs directorate. The ship was heading to the port of Sinop along Turkey’s central Black Sea coast.

This comes days after two other tankers were struck by explosions off the Turkish coast. A Ukrainian security source claimed responsibility for those attacks, stating that drones targeted vessels “covertly transporting Russian oil.”
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan condemned the drone attacks, calling them a “worrying escalation” that threatens navigation, the environment, and lives in Turkey’s exclusive economic zone. He warned that the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict has reached a stage where it endangers Black Sea safety.
Authorities confirmed that the Midvolga 2 did not request assistance, and all 13 crew members were unharmed. The incident highlights rising tensions in the region as maritime security concerns escalate.
