Six injured as fire erupts in Ghatkopar chawl; two critical

Mumbai, Nov 24: At least six people, including four children, suffered burn injuries after a fire broke out in a chawl at Sai Nagar on 90 Feet Road in Ghatkopar (East) on Monday afternoon.

The blaze was reported around 12.49 pm, prompting a swift response from firefighters and 108 ambulance services. All injured victims were immediately rushed to Rajawadi Hospital.

Children identified as Pratik Kumar Mukhiya (10), Gouri Mukhiya (10) and Pooja Mukhiya (6) sustained 10–12% burns and are reported to be stable. Prashant Vishwakarma (9) suffered 2–3% burns and is also stable, officials said.

The fire originated in a 10x10 ft room on the first floor of a ground-plus-one structure. It was confined to electric wiring, appliances, a leaking LPG cylinder, gas stove, rubber pipe, utensils and other household goods.

Two adults — Dalit Devi Mukhiya (40) with 15% burns and Nageshwar Mukhiya (45) with 55% burns — have been admitted in critical condition, according to officials.

Fire officials said the exact cause is being probed.
