Navelim, Nov 2: A shocking chain-snatching incident jolted Navelim on Sunday morning, when a senior citizen was robbed of her gold chain worth Rs 2.5 lac while she was on her way to church for prayers.

According to eyewitnesses, two unidentified youths approached the woman on a two-wheeler and snatched the chain before speeding away from the scene. The victim, though shaken, did not sustain any major injuries.

The incident has triggered panic and outrage among local residents, who have demanded swift police action and enhanced patrolling in the area to deter such crimes, especially during early morning hours when many elderly residents step out for prayers.

Police have launched an investigation and are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby locations to identify the suspects. Additional teams have been deployed to trace the culprits, while checkpoints have been set up in adjoining areas to monitor vehicle movement.
