Chinchwad, Oct 29: The internal strife within the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has reached a flashpoint after a shocking incident in which a BJP woman office bearer was allegedly threatened with death by a gang claiming to act on the orders of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) State President. The incident took place in Chinchwad, sending shockwaves through the party ranks.

According to the police, a case has been registered at the Chinchwad Police Station against eight persons, including BJYM State President Anup More (43, resident of Nigdi Pradhikaran). Others named in the complaint are Anita Tipale, Ekvira Khan, Pravin Yadav, Ashish Raut, Gaurav Gole, Sagar Ghorpade, and Jayesh More.

The 36-year-old complainant, who holds an organizational post in the BJP, lodged her complaint on October 26. As per her statement, on the same afternoon, she had gone to meet an acquaintance in Chinchwad when a group of men confronted her. The accused reportedly said, “Why have you come here when our leader Anup More is around? We won’t let you live. We’ll run you over with a car. Anup More has ordered to finish you. We’ll defame you and make your life miserable.”

Frightened by the threats, the woman returned to her bungalow. Later, a few women and youths allegedly surrounded her vehicle. When she went to the police station to file a complaint, accused Anita Tipale and Ekvira Khan allegedly abused and assaulted her right outside the police station.

The complainant further stated that after filing the FIR, as she stepped out of the station, a mob of nearly 100 people gathered and again threatened to kill her. Police Sub-Inspector Sujata Patil is investigating the case.

Interestingly, though the woman had initially named eight persons, including Anup More, his name was reportedly omitted in the first FIR draft. However, after she raised an objection, police later added his name, stating that it had been “inadvertently missed.”

The incident has triggered major unrest within the BJP, once again exposing the deep-seated factionalism within the party’s state unit.
