Jerusalem, Oct 25: The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that it has killed a senior Hezbollah commander, Abbas Hassan Karky, in an airstrike in southern Lebanon, intensifying tensions along the volatile border despite an ongoing ceasefire.
According to the IDF statement released on Friday, Karky, who served as the logistics commander of Hezbollah’s Southern Front headquarters, was killed in the Nabatieh region. The military said Karky had been leading efforts in recent months to rebuild Hezbollah’s combat capabilities, including restoring infrastructure destroyed during last year’s conflict.

“He was responsible for reestablishing the organization’s force structure and managing the transfer and storage of weapons in southern Lebanon,” the IDF statement said, adding that his elimination marked a “significant operational achievement.”
Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) confirmed that an Israeli airstrike targeted a vehicle on a road in southern Lebanon, killing Karky. A Lebanese security source also told Xinhua news agency that the slain man was a Hezbollah official, though further details were not disclosed.
Local media reported that Karky was related to Ali Karaki, the former chief of Hezbollah’s Southern Front who was assassinated last year along with longtime Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.
The latest strike came a day after Israel launched a series of attacks across Lebanon targeting Hezbollah sites, including an arms depot and a training camp. Lebanese authorities said four people, including an elderly woman, were killed in those attacks.
Just two days earlier, Israel claimed to have eliminated a platoon commander from Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Force, accusing him of transporting weapons and planning future assaults.
The IDF has justified the recent strikes, saying they were in response to Hezbollah actions that violated the ceasefire agreement brokered on November 27, 2024, which largely halted cross-border hostilities triggered by the Gaza conflict.
Despite the truce, Israeli forces have maintained heavy deployment at key positions along the Lebanese border, carrying out occasional airstrikes against what they describe as ongoing Hezbollah “threats.”
