Top Houthi military chief killed in Israeli airstrike, Yemen rebels confirm death

Daijiworld Media Network - Sanaa

Sanaa, Oct 17: The chief of staff of Yemen’s Houthi rebels, Major General Muhammad Abdul Karim al-Ghamari, was killed in an Israeli airstrike in August, Houthi officials confirmed on Thursday. The attack marks a significant escalation between Israel and the Yemeni rebel group, even as a ceasefire remains in place in the Gaza Strip.

Al-Ghamari, a senior military commander sanctioned by the United Nations, reportedly succumbed to wounds sustained during the Israeli strike. Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz claimed responsibility for the operation, stating that the general died from injuries inflicted in the attack.

The killing of al-Ghamari is expected to intensify tensions in the region, highlighting Israel’s continued focus on targeting top Houthi leadership amid ongoing conflicts across the Middle East. The Houthis have officially acknowledged the loss of their key military figure, confirming the impact of the airstrike on their command structure.

This development comes amid heightened concerns over regional security, with observers closely monitoring the potential repercussions on Yemen’s conflict and broader geopolitical dynamics in the Middle East.
