Media Release

Mangaluru, Oct 4: The Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy organised the seventh edition of its monthly poetry gathering, ‘Kavyam Vhalo-7’, at the Academy Hall on October 4.

The event was presided over by Academy president Joaquim Stany Alvares, who in his address said the Academy conducts these poetry meets every month to encourage budding poets and provide them a platform to present their creative works.

The evening also saw the felicitation of veteran musician Muralidhar Kamath, who expressed pride in contributing to Konkani music. “Many people have an interest in music, and I feel proud to sing in Konkani, keeping our tradition alive,” he said.

Renowned writer and playwright Fr Alwin Serrao, who was the chief guest, spoke about literature, emphasising that true literature stems from experience. “Literature is not merely imagination; it begins with thought. A work of literature should embody emotions, including love and the nine rasas (essences),” he noted.

The poetry session was conducted by Tara Lavina Fernandes. Notable participants who recited their poems included Maria Pinto, Wilfred R Pangla, Radhakrishna Nayak, Dimple Fernandes, Dr Prem Moras, Vikas Lasrado, Venisha Jessica Saldanha, Avil Rasquinha, and Glanish Martis.

Academy member Sapna Crasta compered the event, while Ronald Crasta proposed the vote of thanks. Other members present included Naveen Lobo, Samarth Bhat, and Akshata Nayak.

The event highlighted the Academy’s continuous efforts to nurture Konkani literature and culture, offering a creative stage for both seasoned and upcoming poets.
