Mangaluru: Spurious wine manufacturing unit busted in Kadri

Acting on the directions of the joint commissioner of excise, Mangaluru division, and under the guidance of the deputy commissioner of excise, Dakshina Kannada, a raid was carried out by the excise deputy superintendent of Mangaluru sub-division–1 along with inspectors of Mangaluru, Talapady investigation station, and Mangaluru South Range–1 on September 22 at Lobo Lane, Kadri.

During the raid on the house of Michael Blaze Menezes, conducted in the presence of five witnesses, the officials seized 238.500 litres of spurious wine, 1,500 litres of fermented liquid used for wine-making, 3.180 litres of liquor, and equipment used for preparing spurious wine.

The accused was arrested and produced before the court.

A case has been registered against him under Sections 13(1)(a), 13(1)(f), 14, 15, 32(1), 32(2)(e), 34, and 38(A) of the Karnataka Excise Act, 1965, at the Mangaluru South Range–1 office by excise sub-inspector Harish P.

The total value of the seized items is estimated at Rs 5,57,690.
