Kasargod, Sep 23: A fire mishap occurred late Monday night at a dermatology and paediatric clinic operating in Ashwini Nagar of the city. Firefighters rushed to the spot and brought the flames under control, preventing a major disaster.

The clinic, Sparsha Skin and Kids Care, run by Dr Gopalakrishna and his wife Dr Sudha Bhat, was gutted in the incident. Around 11.30 pm, smoke was noticed, and workers from a nearby hotel informed the fire brigade. Firefighters who arrived on the scene extinguished the blaze and averted further danger.

Despite thick smoke inside the four-room clinic hampering operations, fire personnel managed to successfully douse the flames after great effort. Fans, computers, furniture, refrigerators, clinic equipment, medicines, and an air-conditioner inside the clinic were destroyed in the fire.

The building, owned by Abdullah Haji, houses 15 establishments including a hotel, computer institute, dental clinic, finance office, and lodging facility. The clinic was operating on the ground floor. The estimated loss is around Rs 25 lac. A short circuit is suspected to have caused the mishap.
