Ujire’s Vilona D’Cunha shines as champion in Asian Throwball Championship 2025

Mangaluru, Sep 19: Vilona D’Cunha from Ujire represented FSA India in the Asian Throwball Championship 2025, organized by the Asian Throwball Federation at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from September 16 to 17, and emerged as the champion of the tournament.

Vilona is the daughter of Richard D’Cunha and Anitha D’Souza, residents of Halakke, Ujire. She is currently pursuing her studies at St Aloysius Deemed-to-be University, Mangaluru. Previously, she studied at SDM PUC, Ujire, and Anugraha English Medium School, Ujire.

The Indian team was coached and guided by Ganesh Narashimha Acharya, Robert Sebastian, and Kruthik Gowda.

Teams from Indonesia, Bangladesh, Malaysia, and India participated in the tournament, where India had to face all the teams in the league matches. In the final, India defeated Malaysia to clinch the championship title.

Vilona also expressed her gratitude to chancellor of St Aloysius Deemed-to-be University, Dr Praveen Martis, throwball coach at St Aloysius Nitisha Rodrigues, and the management for their constant support and guidance.
