Udupi: Illegal cattle transport foiled in Amasebail, two held; calves rescued

Udupi, Sep 19: The Amasebail police arrested two individuals who were transporting three male calves inside a car. The calves were rescued.

The arrested include the car driver, Shahid Karani, a resident of Kandlur, and a minor boy who was accompanying him on a bike to guide the route.

Based on credible information that cattle were being transported for slaughter from Jaddinagadde in Amasebail village, PSI Ashok Kumar and his staff launched an operation. When they attempted to stop the car near Nadambur Cross, the driver tried to escape by speeding. However, the police chased and intercepted the vehicle near Basrur, where three male calves were found crammed inside.

The driver and the car were taken into custody. The person guiding the car on a bike was also detained, and it was later revealed that he was a minor. He has been produced before the Juvenile Justice Board in Nittoor. The bike he was riding has also been seized.

The seized car and bike are valued at an estimated Rs 6.25 lac, while the three male calves are valued at Rs 5,000. A case has been registered at Amasebail police station.
