Anjuna, Sep 15: The gram sabha of Anjuna-Caisua Panchayat on Sunday witnessed heated discussions as villagers raised concerns over alleged illegal activities, including unauthorised road widening at Kumarvaddo and the operation of a popular nightclub without proper permissions.
Resident Pradeep Harmalkar questioned the controversial road work, prompting Sarpanch Laxmidas Chimulkar to clarify that the panchayat had no role in the project. The villagers unanimously resolved that a police complaint be filed if the widening is confirmed illegal.

The meeting also focused on the alleged illegal operation of Magnes nightclub, accused of disturbing residents with late-night music. Villagers pointed out that a show-cause notice issued seven months ago remained unanswered. Chimulkar said the panchayat had not granted an NOC but provided an EHN number, adding that further action would follow if the notice remained unchallenged.
Other issues discussed included stray cattle, for which the Sarpanch announced plans for a shelter, and illegal garbage dumping, with a promise to install CCTV cameras at 12 black spots by October 15. Plans to set up a Bal Bhavan Centre and introduce Kadamba bus services were also shared.
Former deputy sarpanch Hanumant Goveakar highlighted alleged illegal construction within a coastal regulation zone, drawing assurances of action.
The session, postponed from August 25 due to the absence of Panchayat Secretary Rui Cardoz, again saw his absence. Villagers passed a resolution seeking action against Cardoz and demanding his transfer. The meeting was attended by the Assagao Panchayat Secretary instead.
