Washington, Sep 13: The Trump administration has asked a federal court to cancel the approval of a $6 billion wind project off the coast of Maryland, intensifying its efforts to curb offshore clean-energy developments.
The US Department of the Interior's Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) filed documents on Friday seeking to void the permit granted to the Maryland Offshore Wind Project, citing underestimated impacts on search-and-rescue helicopters and commercial fisheries under prior approval during the Biden administration.
The project, developed by US Wind, plans up to 114 turbines approximately 10 nautical miles off Ocean City and was scheduled to begin construction next year. US Wind is owned by funds managed by Apollo Global Management and a subsidiary of Toto Holding SpA.
President Donald Trump has repeatedly targeted wind power, recently halting work on an offshore wind farm off Rhode Island and signaling plans to block two more projects near Massachusetts, marking a continued push against clean-energy expansion.
