Threat call to Mangaluru International Airport traced to Tamil Nadu man, arrested

Mangaluru, Sep 7:
Panic struck at Mangaluru International Airport on the night of August 29 after an anonymous caller threatened to blow up the terminal building if it was not evacuated immediately.

Following a complaint lodged by the duty terminal manager with Bajpe police station, a case was registered under sections 351(2), 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 3(1)(d) of the Suppression of Unlawful Acts Against Safety of Civil Aviation Act, 1982.

During investigation, police traced the caller to Vellore district in Tamil Nadu. The accused has been identified as Sasikumar (38), son of M D Sampath, a resident of Vellore. He was taken into custody and interrogated.

Police revealed that the accused admitted to collecting contact numbers of airports across the country from social media and making threat calls. He confessed to having similarly threatened Mangaluru International Airport, warning that the terminal would be destroyed if it was not vacated.

The accused has been produced before the jurisdictional court and is currently in judicial custody.
