Mumbai, Sep 5: In a major relief for car buyers, Tata Motors Ltd. on Friday announced a sharp cut in passenger vehicle prices ranging from Rs 75,000 to Rs 1.45 lac, effective September 22, following the GST rate reduction.
According to the company, small cars like Tiago, Tigor, Punch and Altroz will get cheaper by Rs 75,000, Rs 80,000, Rs 85,000 and Rs 1.1 lac respectively. The newly launched mid-sized Curvv will see a price cut of Rs 65,000.
For premium SUV buyers, Harrier and Safari will be cheaper by Rs 1.4 lac and Rs 1.45 lac.
Calling the move “progressive and timely,” Shailesh Chandra, MD of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. & Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd., said:
“The reduction in GST on passenger vehicles will make personal mobility more accessible for millions across India. Tata Motors will fully pass on the benefit of this reform to customers, enabling first-time buyers and accelerating the shift towards new-age mobility.”
The GST Council had earlier approved new slabs of 5% and 18%, effective September 22. Under the revised structure, petrol, LPG and CNG vehicles below 1,200 cc and not exceeding 4,000 mm, and diesel vehicles up to 1,500 cc and 4,000 mm, will attract 18% GST. Larger vehicles will face a 40% levy.
With this announcement, Tata Motors expects a surge in demand across all segments, giving car buyers an opportunity to own popular hatchbacks, sedans and SUVs at significantly reduced prices.
