Mangaluru, Sep 4: An orientation programme for the newly admitted first-year BTech engineering students of the academic year 2025-26 was organised on September 4 at Srinivas University Institute of Engineering and Technology, Mukka, Mangaluru.

Honourable pro-chancellor of Srinivas University, Dr A Srinivas Rao presided over the program and inaugurated the program by lighting the ceremonial lamp. The newly admitted students and their parents also joined the dignitaries on stage for the lamp-lighting ceremony, adding special significance to the occasion.

Dr K Satyanarayana Reddy (vice-chancellor of Srinivas University), Dr Anil Kumar (registrar), Dr Srinivasa Mayya D (registrar evaluation), Dr Ramakrishna N Hegde (dean, Srinivas University Institute of Engineering and Technology) and Dr Asha Saraswathi (convenor of the programme) was present on the dais.

Dean of the college, Dr Ramakrishna N Hegde delivered the welcome address and keynote address. Dr Ramakrishna Hegde briefed about the 37-year journey of the Srinivas Group of Educational Institutions. He also provided insights into the institute’s incubation centre, startup opportunities, training and placement facilities available to students.

In his presidential address, pro-chancellor Dr A Srinivas Rao, emphasized that Srinivas University has incorporated a value-added curriculum aligned with the demands of current industries and emerging technologies. Highlighting the significance of new-age technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and rapid manufacturing in today’s fast-changing technical world, Dr A Srinivas Rao urged the engineering students to actively participate in all academic and co-curricular activities, develop leadership skills and give meaningful contributions to society and the nation.

Registrar evaluation Dr Srinivas Mayya D explained the academic structure, examination procedure and the evaluation process at the university.

Vice chancellor Dr K Satyanarayana Reddy emphasized the importance of innovation in today’s world. Citing the example of Elon Musk, Dr Satyanarayana Reddy encouraged dreaming big and working hard to achieve success in life. Dr Satyanarayana Reddy pointed out that technology can provide solutions to many of today’s challenges. Dr Satyanarayana Reddy emphasized that collaboration across various fields is key to achieving success in a rapidly evolving global landscape.

On this occasion, India’s first octa configuration human-carrying drone developed by Prof Vishwas Shetty of the Mechanical Engineering Department along with students Vishakh Mendon and Aravind Wilson was showcased at the gathering. This innovative project was explained to the students and their parents, showcasing the institute’s emphasis on cutting-edge research and development.

Convenor of the programme, Dr Asha Saraswathi delivered the vote of thanks.

Neha Karunakar, Pragnya Acharya, and Prof Rohan Fernandes compered the programme.

Dr Jayashree Bolar (assistant registrar), Dr Suchetha Kumari (director R&D, Health Sciences), Dr Juby Mary Chacko (dean, Srinivas Institute of Nursing Sciences), Dr Udaykumar Rao (dean, Srinivas Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Centre), Dr Naveen Bappalige (director, Incubation Centre), heads of various departments, faculty members, staff, first-year engineering students, and their parents were present.

The orientation programme served as a warm and informative welcome to the new batch of engineering students, setting a strong foundation for their academic journey at Srinivas University.
