Hyderabad, Aug 27: In a pathbreaking breakthrough, scientists at the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CSIR-CCMB), Hyderabad, have uncovered a unique biological phenomenon that could transform regenerative medicine. The team has discovered a genetically encoded survival mechanism, termed Programmed Cell Revival, which allows cells to recover even from a near-death state.
Dr. Santosh Chauhan, senior researcher at CCMB and corresponding author of the study published in The EMBO Journal, said, “We discovered a genetically encoded intrinsic revival code, which we named as Programmed Cell Revival. This code allows cells to bounce back from a near-death state.”
Traditionally, programmed cell death has been considered an irreversible process. However, the CCMB study provides the first molecular-level insight into how this reversal can take place. The findings establish the regulatory mechanisms that drive cells back from death’s doorstep, offering hope for new therapeutic strategies.
The discovery is being hailed as a significant milestone in cell biology and regenerative medicine, with the potential to open up fresh possibilities in treating degenerative diseases and tissue repair.
