Hansalpur, Aug 26: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday hailed Suzuki’s new e-Vitara, a made-in-India battery electric vehicle, as a milestone in the nation’s march towards green mobility and self-reliance.

During his visit to Gujarat, the Prime Minister inaugurated Suzuki Motor’s plant at Hansalpur, where localised production of hybrid battery electrodes has commenced. He also flagged off the e-Vitara, which will be exported to over 100 countries, including advanced markets like Europe and Japan, making India Suzuki’s global hub for electric vehicle manufacturing.

“Today is a special day in India’s quest for self-reliance and being a hub for green mobility. At the programme in Hansalpur, e-VITARA will be flagged off. This Battery Electric Vehicle is made in India and will be exported to over a hundred nations. In a big boost to our battery ecosystem, production of hybrid battery electrodes will also commence at a plant in Gujarat,” the Prime Minister said in a post on X.

Alongside, Modi launched the next phase of India’s battery ecosystem with the start of production at TDS Lithium-Ion Battery plant in Gujarat — a joint venture of Toshiba, Denso and Suzuki. The move will ensure more than 80% of battery value is manufactured domestically, giving a major push to clean energy innovation.

The Prime Minister also inaugurated power distribution projects worth over Rs 1,000 crore in Ahmedabad, Mehsana and Gandhinagar under the Uttar Gujarat Vij Company Limited (UGVCL). The projects aim to reduce power breakdowns, modernise the grid, improve public safety, and ensure reliable electricity supply, particularly during adverse weather conditions.
