Mangaluru: St Aloysius University observes National Space Day

Mangaluru, Aug 23: St Aloysius University observed National Space Day with great enthusiasm on August 23 as part of the National Space Day celebrations.

Dr Pramod Kumar Shetty, professor, Manipal University, was the chief guest and explained the needs of basic science and the progress India has seen with the collaboration of scientists. He recalled the contributions of scientists in the progress made by India in various fields in the last 75 years. Innumerable opportunities will flow in space science in the coming days. He urged the students to make good use of these opportunities.

Dr Praveen Martis, vice chancellor of St Aloysius University, presided over the programme. He said that it is a matter of great pride that India's dreams have been transformed into dreams for the students. He also said that the efforts of scientists have kept the people of the country safe and have succeeded in achieving self-reliance.

Dr Ishwara Bhat, director of Xavier Block, gave an introductory speech and welcomed the gathering with explaining the importance of Space Day.

University registrar Dr Ronald Nazareth, dean of Physical Sciences, Dr Aruna Kalkur, head of the department of physics Dr Neelakanthan, research coordinator Dr Chandrashekhar Shetty T were present at the programme.

On this occasion, many scientific competitions were held for students as part of the National Space Day celebrations.

Sharon compered the programme. Harshith, assistant professor, department of physics, proposed the vote of thanks.
