Bhopal, Aug 20: In a shocking incident that has rocked Madhya Pradesh, an 18-year-old student allegedly poured petrol on a 26-year-old guest teacher and set her ablaze in Narsinghpur district on Monday afternoon.

The accused, identified as Suryansh Kochar, a former student of Excellence School (Utkrisht Vidyalaya) in the Kotwali police station limits, is said to have attacked the teacher following a personal grudge. Police sources revealed that the boy harboured a one-sided infatuation with the victim, which turned into vendetta after she lodged a complaint against his inappropriate behaviour.

The incident occurred at around 3:30 pm when the accused reached the teacher’s residence with a bottle of petrol. Without warning, he poured it over her and set her on fire before fleeing the spot.

The teacher, who suffered 10–15 percent burn injuries, was immediately rushed to the district hospital. Doctors confirmed that her condition is stable and the injuries are not life-threatening.

According to Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDOP) Manoj Gupta, the accused was enraged after the teacher reported an objectionable remark he made during the school’s Independence Day celebrations. “This is a case of one-sided affection and personal vendetta. The accused, upset over her complaint, meticulously planned the attack,” Gupta said.

A case has been registered under Section 124A and other relevant IPC provisions. Acting swiftly, Kotwali police tracked and arrested the accused from Kalyanpur village under Dongargaon police station limits within hours of the incident.

Police have confirmed that further investigation is underway, and the victim’s detailed statement will be recorded once her condition improves.
