Mangaluru, Aug 28: An appeal has been submitted to the Karnataka government seeking the declaration of a public holiday in Dakshina Kannada district on September 8 on the occasion of the Nativity Feast of the Blessed Virgin Mary, popularly known as Monti Fest.

Ethan Raphael Tauro had submitted the appeal letter to the government through Raju K, KAS, requesting that September 8 be declared a holiday in view of the religious and cultural significance of the feast.

Monti Fest is celebrated with deep religious devotion and traditional fervour by the Catholic community in Mangaluru and other parts of coastal Karnataka. The feast, which commemorates the Nativity of Mother Mary, is closely associated with the region's Christian traditions and cultural heritage.

The appeal highlighted the long-standing tradition of celebrating Monti Fest and its significance for the Catholic community of Dakshina Kannada.

The appeal has also sought due consideration of the community's religious sentiments and cultural traditions while taking a decision on the request.

The initiative was also supported by Sheldon Albert Menezes, who accompanied in submitting the appeal.
