Panaji, Aug 18: A 20-year-old student of BITS Pilani’s Goa campus was found dead in his hostel room on Saturday, police said. The deceased has been identified as Kushagra Jain, a third-year Economics and Computer Science student from Uttar Pradesh.

Police said Jain was found lying unresponsive on his bed around 11 am in the hostel at Vasco. The room was locked from inside, and when he did not respond in the morning, authorities were alerted. A medical team confirmed that he had passed away in his sleep.

The post-mortem conducted at the district hospital in Margao remained inconclusive, and viscera samples have been sent for toxicological tests to determine the exact cause of death. Police have also seized various materials, including energy drink cans, from the hostel room. A case of unnatural death has been registered, and statements of students and the institute’s management have been recorded.

According to students, Jain had played table tennis on campus on Friday night before returning to his room.

In a statement, BITS Pilani Goa said, “The loss of a young life is an irreparable tragedy, and the entire campus community is deeply shocked and grieved. Our thoughts and prayers are with Kushagra’s family, his friends, and all members of our community.”
Police investigations are ongoing.
