Alwar, Aug 17: Panic gripped Adarsh Colony in Rajasthan’s Tijara district after police on Sunday recovered a man’s decomposed body stuffed inside a drum at his rented residence.

The deceased has been identified as Hansraj alias Suraj, a native of Uttar Pradesh who was employed at a brick kiln in Kishangarh Bas area. He had moved into the rented house with his wife and three children about one-and-a-half months ago.

According to police, the grim discovery was made after the landlord, an elderly woman, sensed a foul smell emanating from the first floor of the house and alerted authorities. On inspection, officers found a blue drum on the terrace, sealed with a stone. When opened, the decaying body wrapped in a bedsheet was recovered.

Hansraj’s wife and children are reported missing since the incident, raising further suspicion. A Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team was summoned to the spot to collect evidence.

“The body of Hansraj was found stuffed in a drum on the roof of the house. His wife and children are missing. Investigations are underway, and efforts are on to trace the family members,” said Rajesh Kumar, Deputy Superintendent of Police.

The exact cause and time of death are yet to be ascertained. Police have begun probing the case from all angles.
