Noida, Aug 16: A cab driver was arrested after holding a family ‘hostage’ during a ride while evading police, officials said. The incident was recorded by the family, showing a four-year-old girl crying and her parents pleading with the driver to stop.

On Thursday around 1:30 pm, Sanjay Mohan booked a cab from Greater Noida to Delhi’s Connaught Place. At Parthala Bridge, police signaled the driver to stop, but he sped off, jumping barricades and driving recklessly for several kilometres to evade a PCR van. The cab briefly stopped at TP Nagar, allowing the family to get down, after which the driver fled.

The accused, identified as Nasim, was arrested after the video went viral on social media. Police recovered two Aadhaar cards in his possession—under the names ‘Nasim’ and ‘Sonu’. The Wagon R cab has been seized, and a challan of Rs 29,500 was issued.

Central Noida DCP Shakti Mohan Awasthy said a case has been registered under multiple sections, including kidnapping, wrongful confinement, rash driving, cheating, and forgery. The family reported minor injuries, including a hand injury to Mohan’s wife.
