Ajman bans E-Scooters on public roads to boost safety

Ajman, Aug 15: In a firm step to enhance road safety, Ajman Police has announced a complete ban on the use of electric scooters on all public roads and streets within the emirate. The decision, effective immediately, applies to both privately owned and rented scooters and comes after repeated violations and unsafe riding practices were reported across the UAE.

Authorities stressed that the move is aimed at preventing accidents and protecting both riders and pedestrians. Offenders may face fines or confiscation of their vehicles, though exact penalties are yet to be revealed. Last month, Ajman Police had issued a public advisory warning against the use of unauthorised scooters and urging compliance with traffic safety norms.

The crackdown follows the release of video footage showing reckless behaviour, including riding without helmets, entering roads through exits, going against traffic on one-way streets, misusing pedestrian crossings, and weaving through traffic dangerously. Police said such actions endanger lives and disrupt public order.

Ajman’s action aligns with a wider UAE campaign to curb unsafe e-scooter usage. In Abu Dhabi, a recent video showing three men riding in restricted areas has drawn criticism, while in Dubai, the Roads and Transport Authority and Dubai Police have formed a dedicated unit to monitor two-wheeler violations.

With the ban now in place, Ajman residents and visitors are advised to avoid using e-scooters on any public road, adhere to official guidelines, and await updates on permissible zones. Authorities reiterated that responsible riding is essential to maintain safety and discipline on the nation’s streets.
