Udupi: POCSO convicts sentenced to 20 years in jail

Udupi, Aug 12: The Udupi District Special POCSO Court has sentenced two men to 20 years’ imprisonment in connection with separate cases registered under the POCSO Act in 2024 at Byndoor and Padubidri police stations.

The convicts are Raghavendra Gonda (35) of Gangnadu, Byndoor, in the Byndoor police case, and Manjunath Patrot (23) of Badami, Bagalkot district, in the Padubidri police case.

In July 2025, a total of 320 cases were disposed of in various courts across the district, of which 188 ended in conviction or fines. In a separate case, the Kundapur Traffic Police had booked a man in 2019 in connection with a fatal road accident. The court sentenced him to 18 months in jail and imposed a fine of Rs 9,000.
