Diarrhoea scare hits Cutbona fishing jetty; Six workers treated

Daijiworld Media Network – Goa

Goa, Aug 10: The diarrhoea scare has resurfaced at the Cutbona fishing jetty as six migrant workers were found showing symptoms during a health screening drive by Balli Primary Health Centre (PHC). The affected workers were promptly given medical treatment, with one admitted to Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim.

Director of Fisheries Dr. Shamila Monteiro confirmed that screening is mandatory for all workers arriving at Cutbona before they board fishing vessels. She praised the coordinated efforts between fisheries, health officials, and fishermen’s cooperatives for swift detection and preventive measures to contain the illness.

Ahead of the monsoon fishing ban lift, space at the jetty was arranged for health screenings, and only workers with valid health cards post-screening are allowed on vessels. So far, around 1,000 migrant workers have been screened, and the health team continues the surveillance as less than half the workforce has reported for duty.
