Goa woman booked for brutally stabbing neighbour’s dog over barking dispute

Panaji, Aug 6: In a shocking case of animal cruelty, a woman from Pixem Dongri, Vasco, has been booked for allegedly stabbing her neighbour’s dog multiple times following a dispute over the pet’s barking. The violent incident took place around 5:30 PM on Monday evening, leaving the animal seriously injured.

According to police, Francisco D’souza, a local resident, filed a complaint stating that his neighbour attacked his pet dog with a knife during an altercation sparked by the animal’s barking. The dog reportedly sustained multiple stab wounds and is currently under veterinary care.

Acting on the complaint, Vasco police registered a case under:

• Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), and
• Section 11(a) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

Authorities have condemned the act and assured that appropriate legal action will follow. Investigations are currently underway.

This disturbing incident has sparked outrage among local animal welfare groups, who are demanding strict punishment and calling for greater awareness around animal rights and responsible conflict resolution in neighbourhoods.
