Panaji, Aug 6: Ganesh Chaturthi in Goa is all set to get a futuristic makeover this year, with the state’s Water Resources Development (WRD) Minister Subhash Shirodkar announcing the launch of ‘Robotics Chovoth’ — a unique initiative that invites school students to blend tradition with technology.
Aimed at children aged 8 to 16, the initiative encourages participants to develop robotic elements and tech-based features such as QR codes, to be incorporated in the decoration, aarti, and matoli displays during the festival. “Ganesh Chaturthi brings together people of all ages. We’ve decided that this year, the festival should reflect a touch of technology,” said Shirodkar.
Students will also be tasked with creating reels showcasing their robotic innovations. The best entries will be rewarded by the state, the minister assured.
To facilitate this, a special student training workshop will be held from August 13 to 23 across all talukas in Goa. A citizens' group has been assigned the task of identifying students with an aptitude for coding and robotics to take part in the initiative. Notably, there will be no participation fees, making the event inclusive and accessible to all.
Shirodkar added that the initiative is part of a broader vision to integrate technology into traditional festivals. “After Ganesh Chaturthi, similar tech-based events will also be organised for Diwali and Christmas,” he revealed.
With over 500 schools and 18,000 students currently enrolled in robotics learning programs across the state, the minister expressed confidence that ‘Robotics Chovoth’ will see enthusiastic participation and could set a benchmark for how heritage and innovation can go hand in hand.
