Udupi, Aug 5: World record-holder Remona Evette Pereira was felicitated in a grand ceremony held at the St Francis Xavier Church Auditorium, Udyavara, on Tuesday, August 5.
The event, organised by Nirantar Udyavara in association with Lions Club Udyavara Sunshine, celebrated her historic feat of dancing non-stop for 170 hours, which brought her national and international recognition.
In an emotional address during the event, Remona expressed deep gratitude to all who supported her journey. “Achieving the 170-hour record wouldn’t have been possible without the unconditional support of my college, St Aloysius, who stood by me without a moment’s hesitation. I’m truly grateful to them,” she said.

“I would also like to thank my Guru wholeheartedly. I’m a proud Leo member and I want to thank each and every person from Tulunadu. People came to watch me perform not out of obligation, but out of genuine love for art — and that means the world to me,” she added.
Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi, lauded her extraordinary commitment, stating, “Remona began her dance journey at the tender age of three, and through unwavering hard work, she has reached this remarkable milestone. God blesses each of us with unique talents, but only a few recognise and nurture them. Her success is a result of effort and confidence. While many believed dancing for 170 hours without a break was impossible, she proved otherwise. We are all immensely proud of her.”
Dr Ronald Nazareth, registrar at St Aloysius, praised her courage and tenacity: “Remona is more than just talented — she has the rare courage to showcase that talent. Performing continuously for 170 hours took immense bravery, and that alone makes her worthy of this honour. For the first time in St Aloysius’ history, 6,000 students united to celebrate one student’s achievement. She inspires countless followers on social media, and I believe only Remona can outdo her own record. This is a proud moment for St Aloysius, and we express our heartfelt gratitude. Congratulations, Remona.”
Fr Anil D’Souza, parish priest, remarked, “Talents like Remona make our society shine brighter. Her achievement is an inspiration to all.”
Fr Dennis D’Sa, parish priest of St Anne's Church, Thottam, emphasised the qualities behind her success: “Remona’s success fills me with immense pride and joy. True artistry isn't achieved overnight — it demands devotion, discipline, dedication, determination, and a daring spirit. Her 170-hour performance is a testament to her courage, and with that strength, she is bound to accomplish much more in the future.”
Lion Sapna Suresh, Lions district governor, Udupi, said, “Remona’s achievement is a proud moment for all women. Her success shows that women are stepping into record-making arenas. Being felicitated in the land of Sri Krishna, she is truly blessed.”
Anil Lobo, chairman of MCC Bank, who witnessed the record-breaking performance in person, commended her perseverance: “I had the privilege of witnessing Remona’s world record performance. She has been recognised at every level — from the Grama Panchayat to the prime minister. I strongly believe she deserves the Padma Vibhushan. Her achievement is the result of relentless effort, and much credit goes to her mother and to St Aloysius Institution. MCC Bank will always stand by her.”
The event commenced with a vibrant prayer dance, followed by a formal felicitation ceremony honouring Remona, who holds a Golden Book of World Records title. She was ceremoniously welcomed with a procession and a prayer at the church.
Alwyn Danthy compered the programme, while Steeven Culaco welcomed the gathering. Lion Gerald Pereira, president of Lions Club Udyavara, delivered the vote of thanks.
The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries and community leaders, including Fr Ronald Almeida, Geethanjali Suvarna (president, National Women Billava Association), Wilson Fernandes, Dr Sheik Wahind, Nagesh Kumar Udyavara, Udyavarites Dubai secretary Rayan Suares, Rovin Pereira, and other well-wishers.
