Mangaluru, Aug 5: ‘Team Mangalore’, a renowned kite-flying group from the city, will represent India at the world’s largest international kite festival to be held in France from September 13. For the occasion, the team is preparing two unique and culturally significant kites.
One of the kites is designed in the form of a traditional chariot (Ratha), measuring 18 feet in height and 10 feet in width. The artistic design has been conceptualized by Dinesh Holla, while Pranesh Kudroli, Satish Rao, and Arun are contributing to its construction. The stitching and assembly of the kite are being handled by the team’s lead, Sarvesh Rao.

The second kite delivers a powerful message on water conservation. It portrays water as the life-force of all living beings, symbolized by a palanquin carrying a pot of water—depicting water as the visible deity of Earth. The kite’s design includes the sky at the top, hills at the bottom, a pot of water in the center, and a landscape filled with trees and greenery, emphasizing that a green environment naturally aids water retention. This kite is being crafted using ripstop nylon fabric in an applique style.
Team Mangalore has previously showcased their talent at kite festivals in 12 countries including France, England, Canada, Italy, South Korea, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Qatar, Dubai, and Sri Lanka.
These two creative kites are set to highlight India’s rich cultural heritage and environmental consciousness on a global stage.
