Panaji, Aug 5: A 27-year-old woman, who had previously filed a rape complaint, was found semi-conscious and without clothes near the Bastora flyover early on Tuesday, prompting swift action from police and medical services.
North Goa Superintendent of Police Rahul Gupta confirmed that the control room received a distress call around 4:44 am about a woman lying near Tar Junction in Bastora. A police control room (PCR) vehicle and an emergency 108 ambulance were immediately dispatched, and the woman was taken to District Hospital in Mapusa.
"Our lady police officers found the woman undergoing treatment at the hospital. However, she became aggressive and hostile towards the police and medical staff. She informed the casualty doctors that ‘some people brought her there’,” Gupta told media.
Noting signs of self-harm, the hospital referred her for psychiatric evaluation. A psychiatrist recommended further treatment and transfer to the Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour (IPHB) in Bambolim. Police will now seek orders from the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) under the Mental Health Care Act to facilitate her transfer.
SP Gupta also revealed that the woman had previously filed a rape case, which was initially registered at Porvorim and later transferred to Mapusa and then to the Women’s Police Station. “She had alleged sexual intercourse by certain individuals in Goa, and we had registered an FIR. But she kept changing her statement and remained uncooperative throughout, complicating the investigation,” he said.
Despite her erratic behavior, Gupta emphasized that the police are handling the case with utmost sensitivity. “We are not making any allegations against the victim. Our investigation is ongoing in both the previous case and today’s incident,” he added.
