Srinagar, Aug 3: A senior Army officer allegedly assaulted multiple SpiceJet staff members at Srinagar airport after refusing to pay for excess cabin baggage, leading to serious injuries and public outrage.

The incident occurred during boarding for SpiceJet flight SG-386 to Delhi. According to the airline, the officer, a Lieutenant Colonel posted at the High Altitude Warfare School in Gulmarg, was carrying 16 kg of cabin baggage—more than twice the allowed 7 kg. When informed about the additional charges, he reportedly bypassed boarding protocols and forcibly entered the aerobridge.

A confrontation ensued, during which four SpiceJet employees were physically assaulted. One staffer collapsed unconscious and was repeatedly kicked, while another suffered a jaw injury and bleeding after being attacked while helping the fainted colleague. All injured staff members were hospitalized.

The violent exchange was caught on video and has since gone viral, sparking widespread condemnation. SpiceJet has filed an FIR, initiated a no-fly ban against the officer, and written to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, describing the assault as “murderous.” CCTV footage has been submitted to police.

The Indian Army has acknowledged the incident and stated it is awaiting the outcome of the ongoing investigation, reaffirming its commitment to discipline and respect in civilian spaces.
