Bantwal, Aug 2: Panic gripped passengers near Vittal KSRTC bus stand on Saturday evening after a private bus lost control due to suspected brake failure and crashed into a roadside compound wall, leaving over 17 people injured.

The incident occurred as the bus was departing from Vittal towards Kanyana, when a technical malfunction reportedly caused the brakes to fail. Unable to stop, the bus rammed into a concrete wall, causing the structure to collapse under impact.

The front of the bus was severely mangled, and several passengers sustained minor injuries. Fortunately, no major casualties were reported. Bystanders and locals quickly rushed to assist the injured, preventing further chaos.

Police confirmed that around 17 passengers received treatment for minor injuries, and all are said to be out of danger.

Vittal police sub-inspector Ramakrishna visited the accident site and has registered a case.

Investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the brake failure and assess any lapses in vehicle maintenance.
