Bijapur, Aug 2: In a major success for anti-insurgency efforts, security forces on Saturday arrested three suspected Maoist operatives near Go Gunda village in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district, recovering a significant stockpile of explosives and materials linked to extremist activity.
The arrests were made during a joint operation by the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and local police under the Kerala Pal police station limits — an area known for Maoist presence and ongoing counterinsurgency operations.
According to Bijapur SP Jitendra Yadav, one of the arrested individuals carried a bounty of Rs 2 lakh, suggesting his possible involvement in high-level Maoist activities. While the identities of the suspects have not yet been made public, officials confirmed they are being interrogated for more information on their network and recent movements.

Among the items recovered were tiffin bombs, detonators, fuse wires, and other components typically used in improvised explosive devices (IEDs) — a method frequently employed in Maoist ambushes against security forces and public infrastructure.
Authorities believe the explosives were being prepared for sabotage operations, potentially in connection with Maoists’ Martyrs’ Week, which is often accompanied by heightened militant activity across the Bastar region.
Preliminary intelligence indicates the trio may be affiliated with DAKMS (Dandakaranya Adivasi Kisan Mazdoor Sangh) and KAMS (Krantikari Adivasi Mahila Sangathan) — two organisations often identified as Maoist frontals involved in local mobilisation in tribal belts.
The arrested individuals have been remanded to judicial custody and face charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Explosives Act.
Security has been intensified across Bijapur and adjoining districts, with further combing and search operations underway to prevent any retaliatory violence or planned attacks. Authorities have reiterated their resolve to dismantle Maoist logistics networks and ensure civilian safety in the region.
