Hangzhou, Aug 2: In a heart-stopping incident that has stunned many in China, a 3-year-old boy miraculously survived a fall from the 18th floor of an apartment building in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province.

The incident occurred on July 15 when the toddler was left under the care of his grandparents. Believing the boy was asleep, they briefly stepped out to buy groceries, locking the apartment door. Unbeknownst to them, the child woke up, wandered into the bathroom, climbed onto the toilet, and slipped out of an unlocked window that lacked safety bars.

According to the South China Morning Post, the boy’s fall was broken by an open window on the 17th floor, which altered his trajectory. He then hit the branches of a tree before landing in a bush on the ground, avoiding the concrete floor.

The child’s father, Zhu, was informed of the fall through a message shared in the residential community’s property management group, accompanied by a video captured by a resident. “At first, I could not believe he had fallen from the 18th floor until surveillance footage confirmed it,” Zhu told the outlet.

Doctors at the hospital called the boy’s survival a “miracle.” He suffered a fractured arm, spinal strain, and some internal injuries, but his head remained unharmed. Remarkably, he was conscious throughout and even requested a Bumblebee toy shortly after.

In a touching gesture, the father later decorated the tree that broke his son’s fall with a large red flower — a traditional Chinese symbol of celebration and gratitude.
