Puttur: Theft accused re-arrested after six years of absconding, fresh case filed

Puttur, Aug 1: A man who had been absconding for six years after securing bail in a theft case has been re-arrested, and a fresh case has been registered against him for violating court directives.

The accused, identified as Mohammad Hanif (55), a resident of Somwarpet in Madikeri, Kodagu, had obtained bail in 2018 in connection with Puttur town police station crime number 35/2001 under IPC Sections 379 and 34. However, he failed to appear for court hearings thereafter and remained absconding.

The police traced and apprehended him from Kushalnagar in Kodagu district.

Following his repeated absence and violation of court orders, a fresh case has been registered against him under Section 269 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Puttur town police station. He was produced before the court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
