Bengaluru, Aug 1: In a significant development, a special court for elected representatives in Bengaluru on Friday August 1 declared former MP Prajwal Revanna guilty in a rape case involving a domestic worker.
The verdict was delivered by Judge Santosh Gajanan Bhatt, who had concluded the final hearing on July 30. Revanna, who has already spent 14 months in judicial custody, will continue to remain in jail. The court announced that the quantum of punishment will be pronounced on Saturday August 2.

The case pertains to allegations that Prajwal Revanna raped a domestic help and later abducted her to prevent the incident from coming to light. She was allegedly confined at a farmhouse near Hunsur. The case also includes nine other accused, including former minister H D Revanna and Bhavani Revanna, both of whom have been granted bail.
The judgment had initially been reserved for July 30 but was delayed due to the court seeking further clarifications from CID investigators and the defence counsel. Key issues included how obscene videos were transferred from Prajwal’s mobile phone to his driver’s device and whether the Google Map used by investigators to identify the crime scene could be accepted as valid evidence. The court also sought clarification regarding the mobile phone seized from the accused.
With these clarifications addressed, the court on Friday declared Prajwal Revanna guilty. The sentencing is scheduled for August 2.
