Udupi: Heavy rain, wind damage 42 houses over two days; loss estimated at Rs 15.57 lac

Udupi, July 29: Incessant heavy rain accompanied by strong winds over the past two days has damaged 42 houses, three plantations, and three cattle sheds across Udupi district, causing an estimated loss of Rs 15.57 lac.

In Kundapur and Byndoor taluks, houses belonging to Gulwadi Jalaja Devadiga, Katbelur Sushila, Devalkunda Padmavathi Shetty, Senapura Prameela Siqueira, Hosadu Girija Balgere, Tekkatte Venkatesh Ganiga, Hosur Jyothi, Subba Naik, K Sanjeeva Shetty, R Madhyastha, Vanaja, Siddapura Kalavathi, Kedur Vanaja, Sugandhi Shetty, Keradi Sadhu Madivala, Kasaba Nishmitha, Machattu Vittal Poojary, Hattiyangadi Akkayya, Paduvari Sarvesh Poojary, Ramachandra Hoblidar, Yalajit Anand Poojary, Nada Narayana Acharya, and others were partially damaged.

In Kaup taluk, houses of Moodabettu Lolakshi, Kote Poornesh, Kurkalu Sadananda, Nandikoor Bhaskar Salian, Kumari Shetty, Paduvin Seetha, and Aneeta were affected. In Udupi taluk, Alevoor Deepti, Shivalli Kuldeep Acharya, and Kukkekalli Prakash Salian reported damage. In Brahmavar, homes of Haradi Nagesh, Uppoor Vishalakshi, Yadtadi Jalaja Marakal, Kavadi Jayaram, and Kanjur Babu were affected. In Hebri taluk, trees fell on homes belonging to Shedimane Muralidhar Bayari, Shobha, Jalajamma Shetty, and Madamakki Sushila Poojary, causing significant damage.

The total estimated loss to these 42 houses is Rs 14.16 lac.

Additionally, plantations belonging to Hosangadi Girija Acharya, Hardalli Mandalli Kushal Shetty, and Siddapura Sujatha Shetty suffered damage, with losses estimated at Rs 1.16 lac. Cattle sheds owned by Lakshmi of Hakladi, Babi of Kedur, and Shobha Shetty of Kambadakone were also damaged, with losses totalling around Rs 25,000.

Sea erosion threatens homes, roads in Uppala


Severe sea erosion has been reported over a 5-km stretch from Sharada Nagar to Hanuman Nagar, Aila Kadappur, and Peringadi near Uppala. The protective wall built three years ago has been washed away by the sea.

Roads connecting Kurchipalla–Manimunda and Hanuman Nagar have been swallowed by the sea. Around 400 fishing families in the area are now in distress. Homes of Sunanda Salian, Ravi, Shashikala, Nivedita, Jayaram of Manimunda, Keshava, Alima, and Avvabi are at risk of being consumed by the sea, along with the Sharada Bhajana Mandir. Coconut and other trees have been uprooted, and the fishermen’s shed has also been washed away.

    This all loss to be avoided by doing some ground work ok! the houses are broken it has already been damaged before the wind or rain
